I am beyond thrilled to announce that my personal backyard wildflower initiative was/ is a success. Every few days, my dad sends me a picture to highlight all of the blooms that weren’t in the previous picture he’d just sent. The meadow is taking off, the pollinators love it, and it’s truly a beautiful sight every morning. Plus, my parents don’t have to mow the area, so it’s a lot of winning all around. My parents have decided that they’re going to do some minor weeding and de-seeding of the hardy grasses that remained, but otherwise, this maintenance-free beauty is perfect!
If you’re just seeing this blog now and want to get started on your own meadow, right now is as good a time as any to check out the tarp method and get a jump start this fall. That link does a great job at explaining everything you need to know about taking advantage of the summer heat waves and transforming your space.
We’re waiting patiently for the perennials in the spring, but until then, we have these lovely annuals to enjoy. Take a look at some of the initial blooms we captured. Expect an even more bountiful update soon!
